500MW/2000MWh! StarCharge Powers One of China's Largest Grid-Forming Energy Storage Projects Into Operation in Naiman Banner, Inner Mongolia
December 22, the Phase II 500MW/2000MWh grid-side energy storage project under the new-type energy storage special action plan in Naiman Banner, Tongliao, invested and constructed by StarCharge, successfully passed the "three-charge, three-discharge" grid-connection test and overall acceptance, and was officially connected to the eastern Inner Mongolia power trading market and put into commercial operation. The project is currently one of the largest grid-forming independent energy storage stations in operation in China, marking another major breakthrough for StarCharge in new-type energy storage system integration.

Construction of the project began at the end of June this year, and full-capacity operation was achieved in just six months. Once in operation, the station will significantly enhance the peak-shaving and frequency-regulation capabilities of the eastern Inner Mongolia power grid, effectively promote the high-proportion consumption of wind, solar, and other new energy sources, and further strengthen the flexibility and operational reliability of the regional power system.
Leveraging grid-forming energy storage technology, the station can actively provide voltage, frequency, and inertia support to the grid. In the event of a relatively weak grid structure or sudden faults, the system can respond quickly and participate in stability control, helping the grid resume stable operation. This not only helps defer investment in transmission grid expansion and upgrades, but also effectively relieves the peak-shaving pressure on thermal power units, providing key infrastructure support for Inner Mongolia to accelerate the construction of a new-type power system and advance the green, low-carbon transformation of its energy structure.

As the core supplier of the project's energy storage solution, StarCharge tailored 400 sets of 5MWh energy storage containers and 100 sets of grid-forming PCS step-up all-in-one units for the project. Based on a high-safety, high-reliability system design covering the product's entire life cycle, StarCharge's 5MWh energy storage system ensures the long-term safe and stable operation of the station while further reducing overall operating costs and enhancing discharge revenue capability and project return on investment.
Once officially in operation, the project is expected to complete up to 300 charge-discharge cycles per year, with a maximum single charge-discharge volume of around 2 million kWh, delivering an annual "peak shaving and valley filling" regulation capacity of approximately 600 million kWh — equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 500,000 tonnes per year — with environmental and economic benefits emerging in tandem.

Looking ahead, StarCharge will continue to closely follow global energy transition trends, actively respond to the national "dual carbon" strategic goals, and continuously increase R&D investment in frontier energy storage technologies, key materials, and system-level solutions to precisely meet the green transformation needs of global customers. At the same time, the company will keep optimizing its "global standards + local adaptation" customized energy storage solutions in light of technical standards and application scenarios in different regions, and work with partners to deepen "new energy + storage" integrated innovation, promoting the large-scale deployment of energy storage facilities, intelligent charging networks, and integrated PV-storage-charging projects, and contributing continuously to the global green energy transition and high-quality development.
